New Release: Amped (A Kid Sensation Companion Novel)

***Update: The Kindle edition finally became available late Friday, I believe. I think it may actually have taken more than 24 hours, which is the longest I can recall it taking Amazon to publish a Kindle edition of one of my books.  I have no idea what caused the delay, but I'm happy the ebook is now available.

I'm very excited and proud to formally announce that Amped has finally been released!

Those who've been following the Kid Sensation books are probably well aware of the fact that I've been intending to release several companion novels which would explore the backgrounds of various characters from the series. This is the first of those novels.

As I've previously mentioned on this blog, this book delves into the backstory of Electra, Kid Sensation's girlfriend. In my opinion she has an interesting history (and no, I'm not biased), so hopefully readers will be entertained.

The next companion novel will be Mouse's tale (working title: Mouse's Tale), which - along with so many other items - is already a work-in-progress. I'm kicking the tires on a couple of subtitles at the moment, oscillating for the most part between A Kid Sensation Companion Novel and An Alpha League Supers Novel. (The latter, of course, would probably be a segue into novels about the adult members of the Alpha League - assuming there's interest in such.)

On a side note, the audiobook of Infiltration (Kid Sensation #3) is now available as well.  I have to admit that I'm enjoying the process of bringing Kid Sensation to life in audio, and I seem to be reaching new fans in the process.  I'm blessed in that the audio of versions of the first two books in the series have been well-received, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the warm reception continues with the rest of the books in the series.

As always, I want to thank readers (and - considering the growing audience for audio - listeners as well) for their continued support, and will now show my sincere appreciation by getting back to work grinding on the next book.

  2. I really like the KS series, but I also really liked Terminus. Any idea as to when the next fringe worlds might come out?

    1. You're really putting me on the spot. I've busted deadlines in the past, so I have a real fear of jinxing it if I specify a timeframe. That said, the writing has been going very well of late, so I'm almost feeling bold enough to tempt fate...but not quite. Suffice it to say that the release of Fringe Worlds #2 (working title: "Efferus") is in the VERY near future.

  3. In Mouse's story are we going to see a development in his and Kid's relationship?

  4. No, this is really going to be more of Mouse's backstory and how he came to be part of the Alpha League.

  5. Ay m8 I read the entire series in about 3 days and I am excited for more, so when is KS 6 coming out? And as an avid fan I must express concern that you will ruin KS and Electra's relationship. Please don't.

    1. Thanks for the compliments and I'm happy to hear you are enjoying the series. KS #6 is in the works. As to a release date, I'm wary of sticking a pin into a specific date on the calendar, although I anticipate far less of a wait than the last two books. With respect to the relationship between Electra and KS, the truth of the matter is that - in writing these novels - a lot of the time it feels more like the characters are really telling the story and I'm merely taking dictation. In other words, the direction of the relationship is likely to be determined by the characters themselves rather than my specific wishes.

  7. Amped was a great book! Hopefully we find out what Electra's true potential is soon! Can't wait for the next one.

  8. Thanks. I'm blessed in that the book has received a very positive response from readers, so you can count on Electra having more adventures of her own in the future.

  9. Kevin,

I have discovered your books through the Audible site and have really enjoyed the first 3. Do you have dates or even knowledge if the other books will make it to audio book format?

    1. The plan is to produce audiobooks of everything. However, I can only move as fast as my narrator on this front, and it appears that I'm not his only client. (I told him he needs to quit working for those other people, but he just won't listen...)

That said, the audio version of Kid Sensation #4 is in the works and is slated to be completed by 8/15. Assuming it's ready on time, we're probably talking about another day or two before I can listen to the entire thing, have any necessary corrections done, and then submit it to ACX; then it's another week or so before it's up for sale. Bottom line, #4 probably won't be out there until the last week of August. After that, if we can continue with the same pattern, #5 will be out in September, then probably the audio of Amped, followed by the audio of the Mouse Book, then KS #6.

  10. Do you have a plan of order for book being released in the coming future?

    1. You really put a guy on the spot. Right now, the order is - and this is not set in stone - as follows:

      Mouse's Tale
      Fringe Worlds #2
      Warden #4
      Kid Sensation #6

    1. I had said that I would keep writing books in the series as long as readers were enjoying the stories and I was having fun doing it. To the best of my knowledge both of those things are still happening, so I'd argue that the finish line is not yet in sight.

That said, I do have an idea of how I think I'd like to wrap things up when the time comes.

  13. Couple of things. First, I am soooooooo upset about the cliffhanger at the end pf thos, jk well played. Secomd is a little thing, early on in the book when Elecktra is talking about Esper making her take care of her car, it says car of car instead of care for car. Lastly, a little thing that I've been questioning, wouldn't the supers call each other by their normal names when no one else is around? Like no one calls Smokey by his real name, unless that is, or Alpha Prime or Esper, though I can see Esler being an actual first name. Just a comment, and nothing hou need to worry about, I remain uber dedicated and patiently awaiting your future books.

    1. Thanks for being a fan. Unfortunately, try as we might, it's nearly impossible to achieve perfection in almost anything. (For instance, much as we'd like them to be bug-free, the average candy bar has like 16 insect parts in it.) As to what the supers call each other when no one else is around, I'd argue that they are probably trying to avoid crossing a line and maybe accidentally outing someone by calling them by their real name at an inappropriate time. (In other words, they don't want to get in the habit of calling each other by their given names.) Also, on the other side of the equation, it could simply be force of habit. By way of example, everyone in my family has a nickname, and that's what we call each other. If I addressed one of my siblings by their given name, they'd think I'd been taken over by aliens. Lastly, I think some prefer their "super" name, because it's something they chose for themselves. Say, for instance, that a guy's given name is Maynard; not that there's anything wrong with that, but he may prefer to be called Atlas.

    2. Hmm, I haddn't thought of it that way. I honestly hadn't thought of it being a problem in the first place untill Amped, and I don't find it to be an issue that has any effect on my enjoyment of the book. It was more of an academic thing to notice.

    3. LOL. Not a problem. As you can probably tell, sometimes I don't give much thought to these issues until readers ask about them.
